this was lovely to read! I really enjoyed the 'things you found weird' hahah I can definitely understand it now that I have moved to the other side of the world and daily things are still mindblowing to me ;)

I love this. What's the craziest difference you've experienced so far?

Loved this whole thing but I need you to explain the horse baby food. Is it horse meat? Is it food for baby horses? Is it just branding? Inquiring minds want to know!

I really enjoyed reading this, Rahma- it felt like we were just wandering along with you! Congrats on the new house and your anniversary and just building a life somewhere new. I’m also looking forward to the home updates!

Such an incredible cultural journey you’re on as a family! I haven’t taken a solo flight in about 5 years, since I left corporate work behind. I used to hate work travel but of course now I miss the company card 😂 Congrats on your 5 year anniversary and writing through some big changes!!

Thank you Sadia. Oh, the days of the company card! The unlimited snacks... 🤤

I was thinking about careerism as the topic of this week's essay. Either that or snuggling with a baby. Oh the paradoxes!

Maybe the contrast can exist together in a post?

Hmm will put this idea in the cue! Thanks Rahma

Loved it all! My daughter wants to move to Italy so she can eat cake for breakfast every day 😂😂😂

Curious, do they actually feed horse meat to babies??! In Japan they use horse oil in cosmetics and I find that confronting! (They do also eat the meat, it's a delicacy 😱- that feels so wrong!)

Cheering you on for the house renovation. Sorry, haven't got any name suggestions 😅

It's horse meat. Pureed. So babies can eat it You'd struggle to find lamb (although the halal butchers import it from Spain or the UK) but horse is readily available in the north or Italy. Lots of pork too.

I enjoyed it all. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am curious to know what is "the practice of Madinah"? I was also in Granada in May. Very briefly, I spent most of my time in Orgiva for a writers retreat with Muslim Writers Salon. My first time in Spain and Europe.

Oh, how wonderful! How was the retreat? It was a writing road trip with Medina Whiteman that gave me the confidence to start my first blog.

The practice of Madinah, at least my understanding of it, is the way the first community of Muslims lived and practiced Islam. The daily lived reality. The way that prophetic revelation was infused into structures of community life, business-transactions, family structure, governance AND also worship.

Thanks for the info. The retreat was perfect. Writing, relaxing, eating well, building sisterhood. Couldn’t ask for more Alhamdulillah
